Verify before you share
False information about how, when and where to vote can keep people from voting. These simple rules help you spot it.
Only election officials set dates and locations
If a message says the election moved or your polling place changed, confirm it with your county or state election office before believing or forwarding it.
There is no voting by text, phone or social media
In federal elections you vote in person or with a mail ballot, according to your state’s rules.
Be wary of urgency
Messages that push you to act immediately, forward to all your contacts or share personal data are usually false.
Find the original source
Before sharing a number, a photo or a quote, look for who published it first and whether a news outlet or an official confirmed it.
Where to report
Report false information about the voting process to your state election office or to 866-OUR-VOTE.
